AAUW/CODY serves an area lying across the eastern gateway to Yellowstone National Park, extending from the gate some 70 miles to the east and encompassing the town of Cody, the ranching and farming families to the south and north and the high desert plains of the Big Horn Basin. Our members live within sight of some of the most scenic views in America where populations of wildlife and livestock far outnumber the human.
AAUW Cody has a long history of activism, promoting education through the provision of scholarships at the high school and college level, finding girls and women who need help and giving them a hand at achieving their ambitions. We also promote our members understanding of current issues and local needs through monthly programs. We do not directly take part in local politics, but our members are active—often in leadership roles—throughout the community: in the schools, in city and county affairs, local foundations and in cultural activities. We support each other in these activities, AAUW members turning up as volunteers and participants at fund raisings like the Relay for Life or library and hospital foundation events.
Yet, we find time for enjoyment of each other’s company, as well, and for involving spouses and partners with regular gourmet and book group dinners. These are held in our members’ homes or gardens and generally involve a theme.
